Local Pool Builder Warns Jacksonville Residents of Scams

swimmingpoolholeinground.jpg

If you search the internet, it is not difficult to find hundreds of people who have been scammed by home services contractors and pool builders. The last thing a homeowner expects after forking over hard-earned cash for a backyard pool is a hole in the ground and unfinished pool with a contractor that has skipped town. Click2Houston.com (Channel 2) uncovered a very sad story of this happening in Cypress, Texas to multiple homeowners:

The Cypress couple adopted their great-nephew Jamon, who suffers from several disabilities as a result of being shaken as a baby. The 5-year-old is blind and cannot walk, but he can exercise his legs by swimming. In May, the family decided to put in a pool and entered into a contract with Bellar Pools.

…Two months later, all Comeaux has is a concrete-lined hole in her backyard with no plumbing or equipment to the pool, and several other components left unfinished. She said they paid Bellar Pools nearly $40,000 for the work that was done and for weeks she’s not been able to get in touch with anyone from the company.

Channel 2 Investigates has been contacted by several homeowners who said they paid tens of thousands of dollars to Bellar Pools only to be left with incomplete jobs. All of them are having trouble getting other contractors to finish the work.

In the end, multiple home owners were victim of this scam, and it appears that the business owner skipped town after shutting the business down without telling anyone. It appears to us that these customers paid a significant amount of money upfront, leaving no incentive for the builder to finish the job.

Jacksonville has many high quality and reputable home pool builders to choose from, but it is important for homeowners to be aware of the dangers of dealing with the wrong contractor, and to also know how to properly structure home projects. Jacksonville Pool Builder Pros has put together some good tips to keep you out of hot water:

  1. Phone interviews, and in-person visits to the showroom are crucial to getting a feel for the professionalism of the organization, and determining whether or not you can trust them.
  2. Ask the pool builder over the phone to share with you their insurance company. This will help protect you from builders who say they have insurance, but actually don’t have any.
  3. References and client referrals from past jobs are extremely important to verify before a job takes place. If a Jacksonville pool contractor is hesitant to give you a list of previous clients to contact-buyer beware.
  4. Have an established written contract in place, and don’t pay for the entire pool upfront. This will protect you and incentivize the pool builder to meet the project milestones that are laid forth in the contract.

If you are in the market for a beautiful Jacksonville backyard swimming pool, and need a trusted pool builder in Jacksonville FL, be sure to give Jacksonville Pool Builder Pros a call. They’ve been successfully installing pools in the area for years, and get excited when prospective customers ask for referrals because they have done such a good job in the past, that previous clients love sharing their experience.

There are unlimited opportunities and options with Jacksonville Pool Builder Pros. Whether you want a custom designed pool, a fiberglass pool, stone falls, seaside entries, swimming pool mosaics, tanning racks, pebble surfaces, or tinted quartz interior surfaces, they can do it all.

No more mowing, watering lawn in Jacksonville

Small_artificial_lawn.jpg

We all know how painful it is to water your lawn, invest in an irrigation system, pull weeds from your grass, and break out that old lawn mower in the one hundred degree heat-along with staggering humidity levels. Well fear no more, due to a new technology innovation in the home services sector, you can now get an artificial grass that looks fantastic all year long.

A new company has launched this month called Best Artificial Grass Jacksonville, and they are opening a new warehouse and distribution center in town. It seems that the market for artificial turf-traditionally reserved for sports like soccer, football, and the like-is opening up to the residential home market. This seems to be a great value add for homeowners in Jacksonville, FL, and it is likely good for the environment as one can cut down on the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides, as well as conserve water.

According to the press release, Best Artificial Grass Jacksonville seems optimistic about the opportunity:

‘We are excited to open our doors and bring our products closer to our clients, says Andrew Gao, project manager at Best Artificial Grass. ‘This will allow the company to easily transfer our artificial turf products without having to transfer stock from the manufacturing plant for warehousing and shipping. We now will be able to efficiently distribute Best Artificial Grass products from one central location.

Best Artificial Grass produces and distributes artificial turf for every imaginable application: for landscape lawns, playgrounds, sports fields, pet areas, and putting greens, and is available in a wide range of color combinations for a natural look. Products are 100 percent lead free and eco-friendly, and are made using the latest technologies:

KoolMax Technology: Exclusive KoolMax grass is designed to reflect sunlight in order to limit heat buildup and reduce thermal energy emissions, effectively keeping turf cooler by 15 percent compared to other similar products by other companies.

Jacksonville Library Construction Screwup Leads to Lawsuit

Jacksonville_Public_Library_Main_(Southeast_corner).JPG

As is the case with many government construction projects, problems and issues with the original building construction seem to pop up after the project is completed. As reported by News Jax 4, the Jacksonville City Public Library downtown started experiencing faulty leaks, window problems, and other issues after the initial construction was completed in 2005.

According to News Jax 4 on the issue:

Because of the cost increase, the city delayed the work, but repair work resumed in late 2015, when the city hired another company to make repairs because the original builders refused to do so. Since then, all the windows and faulty concrete have been repaired, and the work even held up during Hurricane Matthew without more leaks.

The repairs cost the city close to $1.8 million. The city is suing the six contracting companies that built the library to get them to pay for the repair work. The lawsuit says the companies refused to remedy the problems and pay for the repairs, so the city was forced to hire another contractor to correct the deficient and defective work.

Both sides of the lawsuit will continue to work out a deal in private, and we expect to hear more on the issue at a later date.

The Public Library is a beautiful building that is located downtown, and is composed of a large library system of over three hundred thousand square feet of space. It has an impressive collection of over 2 million books, e-materials, DVDs and other media. The library is located at:

Jacksonville Public Library Main

Pet Dogs While You Drink Coffee in Jacksonville

dog-2082484_640.jpg

According to multiple news sources in the Jacksonville Fl area, a new cafe has been opened at Roosevelt Blvd. This cafe is much different than most generic cafes you see opening in the market- if you order coffee at this one, you get to pet adorable dogs that are up for adoption in Jax. The problem with most dog adoption facilities is that they lack access and interaction with the population base, meaning that many adorable dogs go un-noticed, and un-adopted. The Jax Dog Cafe is a great new place where the sparks of interaction can happen, and most likely result in some incredible new homes for resident pups.

You should definitely check this place out. The Jax Dog Cafe is located at:

Jacksonville Dog Cafe Headquarters
5535 Roosevelt Boulevard
Jacksonville, FL 32244
Phone: 904-610-0746
